Why is GAMER critical for San Antonio/Bexar County and our country?

In the movie the “Titanic” the ship’s engineer told the ship’s captain that it was a mathematical certainty that the Titanic would sink after it hit the ice berg. In our country there is something very similar. The so called “have nots” are having 2 to 3 times the number of children per female than the so called “haves”. The “have nots” are starting their families at a much younger age than the “haves”. The children of the “have nots” tend to be much more like their “have nots” parents than the children of the “haves”. We therefore have an exponentially increasing problem in our country. If the problem is not fixed, we won’t have to worry about global warming, politics, and the like. We will fall from within like the Roman Empire. I have spoken to coaches, teachers, employers and professionals extensively these past few years. One thing is certain, there is a real difference, in a negative way, between the average student today than just 10 to 15 years ago. We are in decline right now.

Some politicians believe that wealth should be redistributed from the more affluent and be given to the less affluent. In its extreme form, this is communism which does not work. Others believe that wealth should be created. The true wealth of a nation is between the ears of its citizens. America is not the richest nation in the world with respect to natural resources. At this time we do have the best technology in the world but this is rapidly changing. We move forward on our brains as a society. I have heard more people say that the problem is the parents. I totally agree, however, we are not able to change attitudes in adults nearly as easily as we’re able to change attitudes of children. I believe we need to institutionalize, through the public school system, an entity which provides the motivation, values and ethics of successful people which normally should be placed there by good parents. Our children need to meet and speak with inventors and men and women of science and technology on a regular basis. Intelligence and inventiveness is the real natural resource of America. We need to change our culture which seems to admire and value musicians, actors, and athletes to a much greater extent than our inventors, our men and women of science and technology.
